How to compare two GCC job offers beyond the salary

Compare basic pay, allowances, worksite, schedule, probation, travel, housing and written conditions before deciding which offer is actually better.

Put both offers into the same structure before comparing them. Separate basic salary from fixed allowances, variable payments, overtime, commission and reimbursements. A larger “total package” can be less predictable if a meaningful part depends on targets or discretionary payments. Use the written offer rather than a verbal summary.

Next compare the job you will actually perform. Check title, reporting line, worksite, normal schedule, shift expectations, travel, days off and whether the employer can assign you to client sites or projects. A small salary difference can be outweighed by a much longer commute, rotating shifts or frequent inter-city travel. If a location is described only as “UAE” or “Saudi Arabia,” ask for the expected worksite.

Write down the benefits that affect your monthly budget. Housing or accommodation, transport, medical coverage, annual travel, meals and phone allowances can matter more than a small difference in cash pay. Ask exactly who receives each benefit, whether it is company-provided or an allowance, and whether any amount can be deducted. Do not assume a benefit mentioned on a careers page automatically belongs to every contract.

Compare the role's future value too. Consider the systems, equipment, project scale, licence exposure, training and responsibilities you will gain. A role that develops a scarce skill can be valuable even if another offer pays slightly more today. But treat promises such as “fast promotion” as informal unless the employer describes a real process in writing.

Finally, verify the employer and the offer route independently before resigning from another job or paying relocation costs. Check that names, domain, worksite and contact details make sense together. Keep copies of the vacancy and written offer you relied on. If important terms are missing, ask questions before accepting rather than hoping they will be resolved after joining.
